Our Story: Meet Tilly - The Original Adventure Doggo
Welcome to Adventure Doggo, where we celebrate the spirit of adventure with our very own motorcycle-riding doggo - Tilly! If you have a furry friend who loves exploring the great outdoors, you'll be thrilled to learn about the real-life adventures of a chihuahua-cross rescue named Tilly that inspired Adventure Doggo.
Tilly had always loved adventure - she didn't just walk on the beach, she climbed trees on the beach! A Chihuahua, Chinese-Crested, somethingsomethingsomething cross, she was an enigma and a legend. It came as little surprise then, when popping her on my motorcycle gas tank for the first time, that she didn't bat an eyelid. I moved off slowly to guage her reaction and her reaction was that of a dog who'd been riding her entire life. She was a natural, and from that point forward, riding the motorcycle or scooter became one of her favourite activities and it wasn't unusual to find her sitting in the garage next to one of them.
I didn't know it at the time, but it was actually the motorcyle riding aspect of Tilly's adventuring that paved the way for Adventure Doggo. Where do you get safety goggles for a dog? How do we keep her secure while riding? Thankfully some items were available online, others could be modified, and some I made myself.
Fast-forward to today where Adventure Doggo is the culmination of all our Tilly inspired passions. A place where great products aren't the whole story - looking after our natural playground and those that play within it WHILE creating great products is why Adventure Doggo exists. To this end, looking for new and better ways to reduce our environmental footprint while committing a significant portion of profits to animal welfare is the driving force in this continuous passion project - all thanks to the inspiration of one special rescue dog named Tilly.
It's About the Doggos - Supporting Animal Welfare
Adventure Doggo may be a small - a one-man-band in fact - but our goals are huge. Maybe one day, Adventure Doggo might pay the bills but right now, its about giving all we can to the doggos that need it most. Every time you purchase an Adventure Doggo product, a significant portion of that sale is donated to animal welfare. Included in each box, is a mini-certificate letting you know who you helped with your purchase.
Looking After Our Playground
We think our product is great, but it's important to us (and by "us" I mean our sole employee - me) that we're cognisant of our impact in bringing it to you. The importance of being better stewards of our whenua remains top of mind in everything we do from sourcing materials locally where possible, to reclaiming selected materials that would otherwise end up in landfill. Packaging too gets the same treatment - no plastics, just unbleached carboard, crepe, and tissue all wrapped up with a tiny wooden bone.
